Natural Resource Management

Ensuring communities can thrive agriculturally today while protecting the land and water for tomorrow.

Program Overview

In regions where over 80% of the population relies on subsistence farming, land degradation and water scarcity present existential threats. Unsustainable farming practices exhaust the soil and spark conflicts over dwindling resources.

Our Natural Resource Management program trains farmers in agroecology, permaculture, and watershed protection. By forming community resource management committees, we empower locals to govern their ecosystems collectively, boosting yields while halting environmental decline.

Meeting under a tree

Community members map and zone local resources collectively.

Agricultural planning

Local governance establishing rules for sustainable land use.

Program Goals

Cultivating resilience in every field.

Improve Productivity
Promote climate-smart agriculture that yields more food without depleting the soil.
Manage Land Sustainably
Help communities map, zone, and protect shared natural resources and wetlands.
Reduce Resource Conflicts
Establish clear local governance to mitigate disputes over water and grazing land.

Success Stories

Farmer training
Harvesting Hope
"By switching to the organic composting and crop rotation methods KIFA taught us, my maize yield doubled. I no longer spend my profits on chemical fertilizers."
Committee meeting
Peace Over Pastures
"The resource committee helped us map grazing zones and water points. Conflict between cattle keepers and farmers has vanished because we now manage the land together."
